Norwich Central is a major terminus and through station that is served by City Line services to Chichester City, Whitecoast Central, Redborough, Blackwater, Wexford and Birchmere Junction as well as Green Arrow services to Blackwater and Birchmere Junction.

This station has a surface section (which has 9 platforms), as well as an underground section (which has 2 platforms).

In 1.1, a first-class lounge was added at this station, as well as a green space near the ticket barriers. In 1.2, the station received a massive rework.

Description[]

Norwich Central is one of the biggest stations in game, having 11 platforms: 9 on the surface (of which 4 are split, forming 2 platform faces) and 2 underground platforms.

Elevators placed throughout the station allow step-free access to all platforms, except for platform 7.

Surface Level[]

This area is completely sheltered by a giant glass canopy over the station.

Platforms 1 and 2 are for terminating and starting Green Arrow services, which access this station directly using a viaduct, separate from the line via Bracknell Parkway. Platforms 3-6b are for terminating and starting City Line trains.

It also features three entrances:

  • Entrance 1 - The one the player spawns at. It links directly to the station's footbridge, as well having some escalators to the side, leading to platform level. This entrance does not have any ticket barriers.
  • Entrance 2 - A bigger entrance located opposite the previous entrance. It has ticket machines, barriers and a small waiting area.
  • Market Entrance - A gigantic entrance near the station's car park and a market area, featuring a large array of ticket barriers and ticket machines.

Inside the station, there is a gigantic concourse filled with benches, ticket machines and barriers, as well as a subway-like entrance to the low-level platforms. This is adjacent to platforms 1 to 5b and is where Entrance 2 and the Market Entrance lead to this area. Platform 1 features and array of shops, as well as the first class lounge at this station.

A footbridge within the station is the primary link between this area, platforms 6a and 6b and Entrance 1.

Underground[]

There are two ways to access the underground area of this station:

  • A set of escalators that can be accessed from Entrance 1 and Platforms 6a and 6b.
  • A subway like entrance on the concourse, near Entrance 1.

There are 2 platforms here, Platforms 7 and 8 are underground, and they are for the through City Line loop services via Windy Hill. An underground subway links both of the platforms, functioning like a footbridge.

Easter Eggs[]

NRC-ESTEGG-PL1-V1.0.1

Easter Egg

At the information board at platform 1, the information board appears to display a RSR High-Speed train heading to Lydford Central and calling at Linspool as an intermediate station. Both are stations in the game, Ro-Scale Railway. There was also a RSR Class 43 from the same game on the platform. This reference was most likely added because StefanNL_Plays, a former developer of this game, also developed Ro-Scale Railway. The train was later removed.

Trivia

Before Version 1.0.1, the information board stated that the train had 10 coaches, as shown below. Also, the information board shows the number of the platform instead of "RSR". These are shown below this paragraph. This was changed to 7 coaches and "RSR" respectively in Version 1.0.1.

At platform 2, the dot matrix states that the train at platform 2 is heading to Móstoles-El Soto, calling at Móstoles and Móstoles-El Soto. There is a Renfe Class 446 at the platform, which like the Class 43, was also removed.

Please note that the English Wikipedia article for Móstoles Station is inconveniently non-existent. So the Spanish article will be used. Sorry for the inconvenience.

NRC-METROEASTEREGG-V1.0.1

Beyond platforms 11 and 12, the Westbound Tunnel continues and curves onto the left before ending in a black wall reading "I AM A WALL". This wall has no collision and can be walked through. However, beyond the wall is the void.

This is the only easter egg at Norwich Central that requires tresspassing.

Trivia[]

  • The tracks at platforms 5 and 6 extended beyond the station and into a hill, allowing for future extensions westbound.
  • Before Version 1.2, This station had the same headcode as Northernville (N).
  • This is the first station to feature split platforms.
  • This is one of 8 stations that can accommodate a Platform Staff, the others being Birchmere Junction, Bracknell Parkway, Chichester City, Redborough, Mirna Town, Blackstone and Whitecoast Central.
  • Prior to 1.0, the station itself had a similar resemblance to Norwich Railway Station in real life.
    • This is due to the name of the station featuring the name "Norwich"; which is a real life city that has its own station.
    • During this time, platforms 5 and 6 also appeared to be disconnected to the rest of the station. Access was via a long underpass found on the left of the entrance hall, near platforms 3 and 4.
      • The track at platform 6 was completely disconnected and followed the same route as platform 5's track before ending in a buffer just after a bridge near Windy Hill.
    • This station was operated by both City Line and Metro.
  • In Version 1.1, this station had the highest amount of platforms in the game, at 14, although only of 7 of these were ever in use.
    • This also meant it had the most amount of disused platforms in game, at 7, half of the platforms at this station.
    • During this time, access to platforms 1 and 2 are via separate entrance to platforms 3-14.
      • Platforms 1 and 2 held non-WCR static trains.
  • During Version 1.1, the platform layout was based off the future HS2 London Euston Station.
    • However, the entrance was based off Vienna Central in Austria.
      • The latter was unusual as the game claims to be "based in the UK", yet Vienna Central is in Austria.
      • This was mentioned in the description for the 20th March 2024 preview: "🇬🇧 ≠ 🇦🇹".
  • As of Version 1.2, this station is one of 5 stations operated by Transport Whitecoast, the others being Birchmere Junction, Blackwater, Mirna Harbour and Whitecoast Central.
